Sampaio,Rubia Avlade Guedes; Martins,Yanna Nascimento de Figueiredo; Barbosa,Francisca Maria Sousa; Franco,Camilla Ingrid Queiroz; Kobayashi,Maria Duarte; Talieri,Ivia Carmem.
ABSTRACT: Environmental enrichment is a dynamic process consisting of a set of activities designed to meet the ethological and psychological needs of animals. It stimulates the natural behavior of each animal species improving the well-being of the individual and avoiding the development of stereotyped behaviors. The present study aimed to assess the potential benefits that four different types of environmental enrichment would bring to the quality of life of shelter dogs. Twenty dogs were observed for 6 hours daily for 5 consecutive days in the first week in order to assess and document their behavior patterns in an experimental kennel. Between the second to the fourth week, 3 forms of game and 1 type of food enrichment were used in the first 4 days of...

Canine lacrimal and third eyelid superficial glands’ macroscopic and morphometric characteristics Ciência Rural
Cabral,Vânia Pais; Laus,José Luiz; Dagli,Maria Lúcia Zaidan; Pereira,Gener Tadeu; Talieri,Ivia Carmem; Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo; Mamede,Fabrício Villela.
The lacrimal and third eyelid superficial glands produce the aqueous component of the preocular tear film. In this research, morphologic and morphometric assessments of the parenchyma and stroma of both lacrimal glands of healthy adult mongrel dogs were performed. Both lacrimal and third eyelid glands of fourteen dogs were collected, summing fifty-six samples. The macroscopic and morphometric data were statistically analyzed, according to the glandular type (lacrimal and third eyelid superficial glands) and sexual dimorphism (male or female). The lacrimal glands were significantly larger and longer than the superficial glands of the third eyelid. Expressive morphometric differences of interlobular duct, lymphocytic infiltration, interlobular vessels and...

Corneal epithelial inclusion cyst in a dog Ciência Rural
Campos,Carla de Freitas; Talieri,Ivia Carmem; Vicenti,Felipe Antônio Mendes; Laus,José Luiz.
An unilateral corneal epithelial inclusion cyst in a 7-year-old male Boxer dog is reported. The cyst had been observed for thirty days, was unique, not congenital and only one eye was involved. Seven months prior to the referral the dog had manifested indolent corneal ulcer treated with grade keratotomy and third eyelid flap. The cyst was removed by superficial keratectomy followed by a conjunctival pedicle graft. Recovery was uncomplicated and there wasn’t recurrence seven months after the surgery.

Natural latex graft in lamellar and penetrating sclerectomies in rabbits Ciência Rural
Talieri,Ivia Carmem; Laus,José Luiz; Coutinho-Netto,Joaquim; Luvizotto,Maria Cecília Rui; Paula,Meiby Carneiro de.
The objective of study was to investigate the effects of natural latex with 0.1% of polylysine on lamellar and penetrating scleroctomies in rabbits. Two groups of twelve rabbits each (lamellar GI and penetrating GII) were studied. Scleral square incisions near the limbus were performed on the left eye of each animal. The latex biomembrane was fixed to the recipient sclera and it covered with a conjunctival flap. The clinical evaluations were followed for 60 days. Aplannation tonometry, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy and slit-lamp biomicroscopy were performed during evaluation. Bright field microscopy and polarization microscopy were employed. Blepharospasm, graft infection, mucoid ocular discharge and chemosis were not observed in either treatment...

RADIOGRAFIA E MACROSCOPIA DO JOELHO APÓS ESTABILIZAÇÃO EXTRA-ARTICULAR UTILIZANDO FÁSCIA LATA, FIO DE POLIÉSTER TRANÇADO OU FIO DE POLIAMIDA PARA CORREÇÃO DA RUPTURA DO LIGAMENTO CRUZADO CRANIAL EM CÃES Ciência Rural

Use of methyl methacrylate, moulded in its paste phase, to fill the orbital cavity of dogs, after exenteration in cases of ophthalmic neoplasias: a report of three cases Ciência Rural
Talieri,Ivia Carmem; Buquera,Luiz Eduardo Carvalho; Oriá,Arianne Pontes; Brunelli,Adriana Torrecilhas Jorge; Almeida,Denise Eliza de; Laus,José Luiz.
Methyl methacrylate, acrylic resine for odontologic use, was used to fill the orbital cavity of three dogs which presented retrobulbar, eyeball and eyelid neoplasias extended to the orbital space, respectively. The material was moulded in the orbit before polymerization, while still in its paste phase. In each case, follow-up reports were obtained in the 10th and 40th days and in 18 months after surgery. Complications were not observed and improvement of cosmetic appearance was obtained.
